Don’t Ignore Plumbing Problems Until It’s Too Late

No Extra Fees for Evenings or Weekends

They say ignorance is bliss, but even though your plumbing system is mostly hidden from view, the problems that can arise can cost you both emotionally and financially. Many of these common problems start subtly but, if ignored, turn into harsh realities.

Don't Ignore the Dripping Faucet

Small leaks aren't enough to render your entire main water line inoperable but they're often an indication of corrosion and/or mineral deposits on the internal parts. They can also indicate defective gaskets, washers, or O-rings. Bigger problems that come with leaky faucets include:

Small Leaks Can Mean Big Problems

Even the tiniest of leaks can have a big impact. You could experience rotted caulk and grout that leads to water leakage and damaged floorboards and ceilings throughout your home. Water heater leaks can indicate corrosion or a problem with water pressure.

Ignored Plumbing Problems Can Cause Mold Growth

One thing's for certain: if you don't deal with mold growth it's going to keep growing. The small drips from leaky faucets and toilets are direct causes of mold production. And mold is a serious issue. Not only does it pose health problems, particularly respiratory ailments, it also can be expensive to deal with once it gets out of control.

An Unseen or Ignored Plumbing Problem Can Damage Your Home's Structure

The moisture associated with leaks often affects the home's entire structure, causing damage that can be expensive and time-consuming to repair. Unfortunately, many plumbing issues only become noticeable when they're too far along. Be sure to check your home's foundation for cracks and if you have a basement, look for damp spots or standing water. Do you notice warm spots on some of your floors? That could be leaking hot water lines.

The Longer a Plumbing Problem Persists, the More it Costs You

You might be able to make simple plumbing repairs yourself, but what really helps keep disaster at bay is a two-step process: routine DIY tasks and regular professional inspections and maintenance.

  1. In addition to inspecting your home for signs of water leaks, occasionally turn on the faucets in sinks, showers, and tubs and check they all have a steady flow. Does the water drain quickly? If not, a clog could be building up. Also, flush toilets to see if they leak at the base which is a sign of a faulty wax seal.
  2. An inspection from a professional plumber gives you a more in-depth look at your home's plumbing system and can include remote video inspections of pipes. You might also require sewer line cleaning or replacement, minor or major repairs, or a hot water tank replacement.

Many big plumbing problems can be avoided if you know which smaller ones shouldn't be ignored. Do your part by making regular inspections and scheduling routine maintenance with a professional plumber who can stop little leaks from becoming major issues.
